In 2008, the Equal Opportunities Act 2008 (EOA) was adopted by the National Assembly with a view to promoting equal opportunity between persons, prohibiting discrimination on the ground of status and by victimisation as well as establishing an Equal Opportunities Commission and Equal Opportunities Tribunal.

The EOA therefore makes it unlawful to discriminate on certain grounds, in certain circumstances.
